How long does it take to fill?
- About 40 minutes if you have a constant supply of water
- Fill time dependent on water pressure and water heater capacity
- A minimum 40 gallon water heater required for efficient filling. May need to stop filling and wait for water heat to refill and warm up
- In most homes, 3-4 hours to fill completely
- Mom able to use the tub while filling
- Don’t forget to mix the water while filling!
How does the water stay warm?
- Outer liner in the Gentle Birth Pool contains two grounded (three prong plug) waterbed heaters
- Heaters are UL approved; 2.5 amps; 115 volts; 300 watts
- Heaters sufficient to keep the water warm, but will not be able to raise water temperature within a reasonable amount of time. To raise water the temperature, we recommend adding more hot water
- Foam pool cover included to retain warmth when pool not in use.
- Birth Pool in a Box currently does not have a heating system, however the manufacturers of this pool are currently working on this. Stay tuned!
How is it drained? We take care of draining and cleaning the pool after the baby is born! Just replace the cover and call us!
- A heavy-duty submersible 1/6th horsepower pump is included
- Pool drains in about 30 minutes, through a "dirty water" hose to the nearest toilet
Is It Clean?
- Disposable liner is used only for your birth!
- After each use, the pool, all accessories, and pump are sanitized with an anti-viral, anti-bacterial hospital-grade disinfectant.
- The pool is filled with a food-grade vinyl "clean water only" hose. The connector is incompatible with the dirty water pump so that it cannot be accidentally used for drainage
What Do We Need To Use A Birth Pool?
- Floor space large enough for the pool and room for the coach and care providers to move freely around the outside.
- A grounded (three prong) double electrical outlet, within 5 feet (3.6 m), of the birth pool.
- A faucet within 40 feet (12 m), and bathroom within 50 feet (15 m), of the birth pool.
- A tarp or drop cloth to protect your floor from water.
- If mom is of smaller stature, you may wish to have a low stool or mini-ladder for the outside of the pool.
- Many moms enjoy floating on a partially inflated beach ball.
